3 Tips to Be More Active so You Can Lose Extra Pounds

One of my favorite stores is Earthfare, which is an all natural, super healthy grocery store. I love it because it’s a great place to find a lot of healthy foods that you may not be able to get elsewhere. But that’s not what this post is about.  I want to tell you how to be more active every day, but first I have a story to tell and you’ll see why I’m even talking about Earthfare.

So one early Saturday morning, I drove up to Earthfare before many other shoppers arrived. I pulled into one of the closest parking spaces, the actual closest spot was occupied, but no biggie, I love to walk and it is good because it keeps you more active right?

Well just then the funniest thing happened. A lady came walking out the door with two grocery bags screaming at what I guess to be her husband, who was sitting in the car next to mine in that mega close parking spot.

The funny part is what she was yelling about. She actually got mad because he didn’t pull up to the door that was 15 feet away. That’s it! She had to take an extra few steps and she was actually angry and upset. I couldn’t believe it!

So don’t be like this person. If you want to start losing those extra pounds trapped around your middle then one of the easiest things you can do is to start finding ways to be more active every day. Those extra calories burned will add up in the long run.

Here are 3 tips that you can incorporate into your daily life so you can start being more active and more effortlessly lose extra pounds.

1. Walk more! Simple as that. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk around your house during each commercial break. Use your lunch break to get outdoors and stroll around the block. Be really inefficient when cleaning your house by going up and down the stairs more than you really need to. Park further away from the store, or thank your husband who DIDN’T pull up.  Now don’t tell me you can’t do a few of these on the list.

2. Break up your exercise routine. Ok so some days you’re just not going to make it to the gym no matter how hard you try. So rather than get frustrated and just “wait until tomorrow to workout” break it up into small 10-15 minute segments. Spend your 15 minute work break to complete a mini band workout in the corner of your office.  Then during your lunch break do some light cardio or another strength routine. When you arrive home run up and down your stairs a few times along with some jumping jacks, side shuffles, or whatever else gets your heart pumping. In no time this all could add up to an easy 30-45 minute workout total for the day.

Family Roller Skating3. Get fit with the kids. If you’re going to take your kids to the park or one of their soccer games why just sit on the bench and stare. Get up and either join in the activities or get up and walk around. There’s no need for you to be just sitting there. You could easily burn 300 calories during your little guy’s baseball practice by just getting up and moving around. Or make it a family activity and go out roller skating, biking, or swimming together instead of watching TV.

So quit making excuses. Follow these quick tips to be more active and start losing extra pounds. You’ll be looking and feeling much better in no time.
