Why More Isn’t Better When It Comes To Working Out

There was a time when I thought that MORE was BETTER when it came to working out.

Becky Fox FitnessIn 2008, I did my first fitness competition. I exercised twice a day (that included 45 minutes of weight training followed by 30 minutes of cardio, along with a second evening cardio workout for 30-45 minutes)

That’s almost 2+ hours of working out per day. Ugg, ick, blah!!

So I’m not going to lie. I liked how I looked and was proud of the shape my body was in, but the truth is that I was miserable. I thought it’s what I HAD to do or SHOULD do to get in shape.

I was constantly hungry and tired and barely had time to do anything else but work and workout.

Following my fitness competition, I had lowered my metabolism so much that I actually gained weight! All the dieting and cardio lowered my metabolic rate, so “normal” was no longer normal at all.

Reality Check: I spent months feeling like crap only to end up right back where I started.

So, I have good news for you. Working OUT more isn’t better. It’s not realistic and it’s not sustainable. It doesn’t give you better or faster results. Usually it just hinders your weight loss by slowing your metabolism, lowering your willpower, and creating an environment where’s it’s easy to overeat.

Research even shows that shorter, more intense workouts are the best way to burn fat and burn calories. These types of workouts, whether interval training or metabolic weight training, increases muscle mass, metabolism, and burns more calories than the looooong, slow, boring stuff.

It’s all about QUALITY over QUANTITY.
